Modern Art Sculpture
Michaelangelo's David or Rodin's Thinker; these come to mind when you think of sculpture.
Representational works of art that bear a strong resemblance to the subject or that idealizes the subject. Then you have abstract sculpture. An object that is unlike anything seen in nature, like an aluminum obelisk shining brightly in the sun, or a smooth swoosh of polished steel that gives the feeling of the flight of a bird.
Sometimes the material used by the artist is a stone of some kind, sometimes it is metal that is shaped by the artist's imagiation and sometimes the material is paper or clay. Sculpture can be quiet and serene or loud and monumental, dignified or playful.
