One Man's Alaskan Dream
I met him in a roadhouse on Alaska 1. I don't remember his name now. He was sitting in a booth with papers spread out in front of him. I asked if I could join him.
He began telling me of his search for the document of the sale of Alaska. He didn't find it in Washington D.C. in the archives, but he did find it in the Canadian archives in Quebec.
He told me what the document said the American government purchased from Russia. What the government purchased from the Russians were their holdings in the territory, not the entire territory.
This man's Alaskan Dream was sovereignty for the Native Alaskan people.
