Ceramics Art Pottery in the Modern Movement by Artist KDD

Can there really be a category as "Ceramics Art Pottery"? Isn't all pottery "Ceramics Art Pottery"?

The pieces seen here are hand built and use two different firing methods. The earth crust series (and there were a few pieces from the series that escaped my camera) were high fired in a gas reduction kiln. The other two pieces were pit fired in a metal garbage can.

During the hand building process the pieces were draped over crumpled black plastic, causing indentions in the clay on the inside. Then the earth crust pieces were glazed on the outside and inside with a heavy "bath tub" white glaze. A Scotch-Brite pad was used to remove the glaze from the inside of the bowl leaving the white glaze in the indentions. Red slip was then lightly and unevenly applied with a one inch brush to the inside of the bowls.

The pit fired pieces were rubbed with copper carbonate and placed in a "kiln" loaded with wood, set ablaze and after the fire was roaring, covered just enough to let the fire smolder. Color happens as the flames lick the copper carbonate covered pieces. Mellow Yellow was a hand building raku clay body and Square Pot was a porcelain clay body.
