"It was sitting on a table.
'No, it isn't metal', I said."

One Man Thought It Was Metal

I had hurt my thumb in the wood shop and lost the use of my right hand for two weeks. It was getting close to the end of the semester and I told my professor I could not throw pots and that I was concerned about my grade.

He told me I needed to think of something to do. I began hand building platters and bowls. This was the first in the series and it survived the Raku firing process.

While volunteering at an Army newspaper, I had taken the piece to the office and placed it on the coffee table in the reception area. The supervisor of the office asked if it was a piece of metal. I told him it was clay. He went over and touched it to make sure I was telling him the truth. He commented that it certainly looked like a piece of metal.
