Roughness wins again.
Earth's Crust is a hand built ceramic art pottery bowl made large and thin then high fired in a gas reduction kiln.

Earth's Crust

High Firing With Raku Clay

This bowl was around the third piece in a series of this style of firing and glazing. I was experimenting here to see how well a hand building raku clay body would high fire when the shape was thin.

Slabs of clay were draped over a metal dome on top of wrinkled black plastic to cause creases on the inside of the bowl. White glaze was applied to the inside of the bowl and when it was dry was removed with a green pot scrubbing pad. This left the white glaze in the creases. A thin coat of red slip was applied to the inside of the bowl. The outside of the bowl was glazed white high.

The foot was made with strips of clay and after the bisque firing some of the points of the foot were broken off. The bowl was then high fired in a gas reduction kiln.
