Life's Crossroads
I was running away from my problems. I had found my German family in 1993. I was in a dysfunctional marriage that was only getting worse by the day and I was seeking relief wherever I could find it. I was in a lot of psychic and physical pain, so I went to Germany to live.
My sister took me to visit my aunts who lived in different towns in Germany. One of my aunts lived outside Hamburg. We stayed a few days with her and I got to meet her son, who wasn't impressed with me.
I felt like drawing one day so I took a piece of paper and a pencil and walked the cul-de-sac on which my aunt lived. I made the drawing of the street as I walked along trying to give myself a bird's-eye perspective of the street.
I was with my blood family, but it wasn't meant to last. I realized in the two weeks that I was with them that I couldn't run away from my problems. They only followed me. So I flew back to America on New Years Eve of 1994.
