Hand Made Raku Pottery - Ceramics Art Pottery in the Modern Movement by Artist KDD

Ceramics come in many flavors.

Some like hand made raku pottery, an ancient Japanese process of firing ceramics. These raku pottery pieces are produced with a Western twist. After reduction, the piece is plunged into cold water.

Some like other forms of art pottery. Here you will find ceramic art pottery, high fired pieces, and you will see pieces produced by an ancient process called pit firing.

Pit firing is self explanitory. Well, sort of. Ideally, you dig a hole in the ground, fill it full of wood, put your dried pieces of clay in the wood and set it on fire.

The some of the pieces you will see here have been rubbed with copper carbonate, a chemical to add color to the clay if struck correctly by the flames of the fire, and set ablaze in a garbage can filled with wood, almost completely covered and left over night to smolder.
