The 1996-97 Steve Nash Rookie Card

by Curtis Baresi

Out of the entire record of the NBA, only eleven people have earned Most Valuable Player awards multiple times. Steve Nash is among these people. He stands at six-foot-three and weighs less than two hundred lbs.

When he began, almost everything was a distinct story for him. Jason Kidd in 1996 was the main super star on the team he joined. Just eleven games that he started in, on the initial couple of seasons that he played. This was when he initially arrived on the Phoenix Suns from Santa Clara. At this point he was only averaging about 10 points a game and three assists.

In 1998, he was exchanged off to Dallas, TX (there are some Mexican jokes about this). While trying to play in Dallas, his game took a turn to all-star status. In 04, listed as a free agent, he chosen to go back with the Suns. The Suns right now, would and could not imagine playing without having him.

Mike D'Antoni's way of training provided the helping hand needed by Steve Nash rookie (want to see his cross tattoos?). He became one of the greats when it comes to shooting from beyond and getting himself up to the rip for layups. Shooting now at the average of nineteen points and 11 assists a game; it was good for getting him MVP for 2004-05 and 2005-06.

Besides that, it served to make the Sun's one of several top NBA teams. In the first half of 2006-07, his scoring got better still. Regardless of all of this, his rookie card is still way undervalued when compared with other greats of his time.

It continues to be a mystery of why his card persists to have a value so low. In the meantime however, you can get a good deal on his card and will continue to be able to until eventually they realize all of the great work that he has done.
